Here's a checklist of must-haves to ensure you're fully prepared for the festival adventure:

- General gear: Tickets (duh!) and the festival program (so you know what's happening when), cash and cards (check for on-site ATMs), and ID documents (you might wanna make photocopies, just in case).
- Medical kit: You never know when you'll need it, so pack some essentials like band-aids, pain relievers, and any medications you may need.
- Camping gear: Tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, bungee cords, duct tape (because it fixes everything), and trash bags (I already said that, but they have multiple uses, trust me). And don't forget your pillow – this is the thing we often forget, but its essential if you want to headbang all night for days...
- Lighting: Don't stumble in the dark! Bring a flashlight or headlamp to light your way (if your phone battery dies, you'll thank me).
- Clothing: Pack your everyday clothes, underwear, socks, t-shirts, pants, and cozy nightwear. Don't forget rain gear and waterproof shoes or boots. And oh, a cap and sunglasses to shield yourself from the sun.
- Food and drinks: While you can buy meals on-site, bring some instant snacks like cereal bars. Stay hydrated with water and grab affordable beverages at the festival itself. Oh, and coffee and tea for the caffeine lovers.
- Personal care: Toilet paper, tissues, a towel, sunscreen (lather it up!), toiletries (toothpaste, deodorant, shower gel, etc.), and any personal items you may need.
- Extra goodies (optional): Camping chair and table, shade canopy or tarp (for those scorching days), earplugs (for when it gets too loud), camera/phone and chargers (plus an adapter), portable speakers, wet wipes (keep it fresh), portable hand sanitizer, spare batteries, and a blanket or mat for lounging.

Festival Camping Packing Checklist: Essential Items Not to Forget

Dubstep has emerged in England in the 2000’s. At its beginnings, Skream heavily contributed to the popularization of the genre. The wobbles then crossed the Atlantic with Joe Nice and Dave Q, the first American producers to discover this brand-new musical world. Gradually, dubstep sounds spread worldwide, even infiltrating techno productions. But it only became mainstream in the late 2007’s.


# DID YOU KNOW?

Britney Spears collaborated with Rusko ! In her album "Blackout" (yes, the one with Gimme More and Piece of Me), you can find the distinctive sounds of the English producer, especially in the track "Freakshow". This was in 2007.

But it was around 2010 that everything exploded for dubstep. First in Europe with [Netsky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD40VXFkusw), [Flux Pavilion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui_odIvVIBE&list=PLB319262EFC7F9548&index=1), [DJ Fresh](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE-dwpWpscU). It would be a lie to say that we don’t feel anything to re-listen to these old bangers. Probably the era of the old MP3 USB or the iPod on the bus to high school. But even more connected to this memory, there's Skrillex's very first EP, "My name is Skrillex". He’s THE artist who propelled dubstep worldwide. It started with this remix of [La Roux](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpEOErRV-u4), then [My name is Skrillex (remix)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEd4NfmMI6U), and finally the release, the same year, of Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. Who didn't have this album on their iTunes? At that time, dubstep was at a point of no return. We were at the dawn of a whole new musical world, opening the doors to darker, more metallic, more robotic, even more violent sounds, to total musical experimentation, leading us to all the sub-genres of dubstep that we know today.


The 2010’s were very, very rich. What is commonly called "brostep", popularized thanks to Skrillex, grew everyday. Proof of this great expansion: Skrillex, in 2012, won three Grammy Awards including the Best Single for « Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites » and Best EP for the eponymous album. Throughout the decade, Excision, Nero, Flux Pavilion, and Datsik developed and enriched the genre. We saw the emergence of gorestep with Borgore, drumstep with [Figure](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ561PAYZ_g), robostep with [D-Jashta](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_854Meuz3A), deathstep with, for example, [Code:Pandorum](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0MdOfBBuaQ), and wobblestep with [Caspa](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=civBJ2_xapg).


# The Excision climax: when dubstep becomes a show

After scouring small clubs for years, it takes a whole new turn, thanks to the now father of the genre, Excision. From the X Tour in 2012, the Canadian composer Jeff Abel imposed himself with a unique show. He travelled across North America with a meticulously planned spectacle: his own visuals, his own lighting system, and a sound system calibrated for optimal immersion. At the time, he was accompanied by Liquid Stranger and Lucky Date. As the tours went on, his show grew in scale, and the Paradox Tour left a mark. His audience almost became a cult with their arms forming the "X" of "Excision". In 2016, he started his new tour with Bear Grillz and Figure. From this time, we'll remember ["Throwin' Elbows"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS87krWeYpA), his collaboration with Space Laces, which became a true anthem. A year later, he decided to inaugurate a major project: his own dubstep-dedicated festival, on the theme of dinosaurs, where he immerses his audience in an amazing prehistoric world, 100% bass music and mostly dubstep. It's now a must-attend for any real dubstep fan. With this festival, he does more for the genre than any other artist, as he gathers artists from around the world every September to share their music.


# What about the riddim?


We haven't yet mentioned this sub-genre of dubstep that played an important role in the survival of the genre by modernizing it and creating a whole new movement. Riddim appeared a bit later, around 2013, notably with [Subfiltronik](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkMep2LkFLs). It then spread widely with artists like Oolacile, JPhelpz, Xaebor, but also and especially [Badklaat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTdbnIvw8hk), [Coffi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-YvijTjlHk), and of course, [50 Carrot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP5JHqQ9Avk). For 10 years, riddim has only grown, making its way into all bass music parties, even taking over the headliners, and its community expands day by day. Its success also brings haters that don’t hesitate to criticize this style made with more repetitive sounds. Its name itself is contested since it was originally borrowed from reggae and dub. Indeed, Getter had introduced the genre in 2014 with his « Trench Lords » EP, which for many artists, including Infect, is a word that defines the genre far better than « riddim ».

Other genres have also contributed to maintaining dubstep as a pillar of electronic music, notably trap, which incorporates dubstep sounds, and bass house, two styles that are easier to grasp for a non-versed audience.

Today, big heads of the global electronic music scene continue to include dubstep passages in their sets, allowing the genre to continue to exist. DJ Snake, for example, with his incredible wall of death at Paris La Defense Arena, or Skrillex, Fred Again, and Four Tet who drop heavy riddim in their Coachella set. In one of his latest projects, Skrillex even used deep dubstep sounds in ["Rumble"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z25ZZ3DHds), which is now a true hit. Marshmello, a big name in american EDM, teamed up with Svdden Death, and it must be admitted: dubstep largely dominates in their collaboration. From the depths of the dark clubs of London, dubstep has managed to assert itself as a unique, complex, and rich musical genre. It has won the hearts of many partygoers and music fans and now has a global fan base. Today, dubstep can be just as mainstream as underground, and that's fucking beautiful.

Is dubstep dead? How dubstep managed to survive from 2010 until now
